Race, Racism, and Inequality

Scholars in the Race, Racism, and Inequality priority area will conduct research into the structural, systemic, institutional, and individual effects of racism and discrimination, both historically and today, in all domains of the humanities, social sciences, and professional schools, including but not limited to area studies, business, criminal justice and the carceral state, families, education, environmental and climate justice, labor, law, media, public policy, urban planning, or other related fields.

Advancing Diversity in the STEM Disciplines

Scholars in the Advancing STEM Diversity priority area will conduct leading work in any area of the physical and biological sciences, earth sciences, computer sciences, engineering, or mathematics, or in areas of convergence among multiple fields that define an emergent domain of research (e.g., AI and the data sciences, computational biology, interdisciplinary climate science, etc.).

Health Equity

Scholars in the Health Equity priority area will conduct basic clinical, translational, community-engaged, and population-based research in the biomedical sciences, social sciences, behavioral, psychological sciences, and related fields that address health inequalities, including but not limited to research on pathogenesis, chronic disease, mental health, disease prevention and treatment, access to healthcare, and public health.

Presidential Postdoctoral Fellows

In Fall 2023, Rutgers University welcomed its inaugural cohort of Presidential Postdoctoral Fellows.

The appointment is for a two-year term starting September 1, 2025, (rolling start dates are possible) with the possibility of subsequent appointment to a tenure-track faculty position at one of four Rutgers locations: Rutgers University–New Brunswick, Rutgers Health, Rutgers University–Newark, and Rutgers University–Camden. Applicants may request to be affiliated with a particular campus across the Rutgers corridor, although all placements will be made in consultation with departmental and campus leadership.

All applications are due by October 18, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.

Diversity may include but is not limited to, ethnicity, race, gender expression or sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, or other personal or professional characteristics that have led to systematic marginalization from the research and academic mission.

Promoting Institutional Transformation

The Faculty Diversity Collaborative is building a community of practice with individualized and targeted supports along the faculty life cycle to increase diverse faculty, ensure effective mentoring, expand networking opportunities and develop leadership skills to foster a sense of belonging and professional growth in the academy for all.

Recruitment is just the beginning...

Disrupting marginalization is essential to building an inclusive academy. It is an acknowledgment that not all people and voices have been included in the academy historically. Our investment in faculty diversity now is part of a purposeful push to center the work of equity and inclusion so that Rutgers can better serve our students and retain the diverse faculty we recruit.

    IFH Faculty Awarded Mutual Mentoring Grants

    IFH core faculty members Dr. Darina Petrovsky and Dr. Ann Nguyen are the recipients of grants from Rutgers University Equity and Inclusion’s Mutual Mentoring Program. The program supports faculty at any career stage in developing robust mentorship networks, within and outside of Rutgers University, to combat isolation and ensure all faculty have the resources they need to thrive.
