Kimberli Gant, PhD, Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum, discusses her role as a curator in museums, trying to reconcile how to make permanent collections more inclusive for visitors and reflect the changing landscape of art history.

Dr. Gant received her PhD in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin and, in addition to the Brooklyn Museum, has worked at such other institutions as Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA, The Newark Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA). She has published scholarly work in academic books, including Anywhere But Here: Black Intellectuals in the Atlantic World and Beyond; in art publications, such as NKA: Journal of Contemporary African ArtArt Lies, and African Arts; and in exhibition catalogues for The Newark Museum, The Contemporary Austin, the Studio Museum of Harlem, MoCADA, Paris Photo, and the Centre for Contemporary Art Lagos.
