About

Caroline Harmon-Darrow, PhD, MSW, is committed to violence prevention, criminal justice diversion, conflict resolution and restorative justice interventions, and the prevention of human trafficking. Caroline Harmon-Darrow is a macro social worker and community mediator of 27 years, and has served as a community organizer, nonprofit Development Director and Executive Director in Baltimore. She teaches Social Work Practice with Communities and Organizations and Social Welfare Police and Services.

 

Current Work

"Police Diversion at Arrest: The National Landscape" is a qualitative study interviewing police-initiated diversion programs, which aim to reduce arrests, identifying common promising practices, pitfalls, and critical tensions in their work. “Public Sector First Responders: De-escalating Conflict and Fostering Civil Discourse” funded by American Arbitration Association, evaluates a de-escalation training series. “Violence Prevention Capacity of Community-based Mediation”, is novel quasi-experimental research into whether, in what cases, and how the use of community-based mediation diversion can reduce self-reported violence between participants. “Victimization and Resilience of Community Mediators” with community partners and Center for Victimization Research, surveys and interviews community mediators.
