About
I'm Professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Africana Studies. I'm also Principal Investigator for the RAGE Lab, and I serve as interim department chair for 2024-2025. I'm a New York Times bestselling author of Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower, and the author of the award-winning Beyond Respectability: The Intellectual Thought of Race Women. I have authored, co-authored, or co-edited several other books as well. I'm also a regular commentator on cable news and an opinion writer for a range of outlets including New York Magazine/The Cut, Time Magazine, and the New York Times.
Current Work
My work is broadly focused in the arena of Black feminisms. I am at work on several book projects. I am currently finishing a book called How To Love a Feminist, a collection of essays on contemporary debates in Black feminism. I'm also finishing my second story book entitled Mama Says I'm Fine which will come out with Scholastic Books later this year. Finally, I'm PI for RAGE Lab, and in that capacity I focus on generating and supporting public-facing Black feminist scholarship.
