About
I am expert in teaching and teacher preparation and deeply appreciative of the complex and dynamic work required of educators. With over 25 years of experience in education, my work as a practitioner, researcher, and teacher educator focuses on examining the instructional strategies used to teach preschool through adolescent learners, and more recently, to understand how these practices can be leveraged to address issues of agency and equity in education. It is through this work I have made an impact on learning and teaching in both today’s P-8th grade classrooms and higher education as a pedagogical leader. In collaboration with colleagues, I have also played an integral role in reframing our teacher preparation program's curriculum, instruction, and student support systems in our effort to reconceptualize our work to align with our Urban Social Justice Teacher Education Program’s mission and strategic goals.
Current Work
In my role as Early Childhood & Elementary Education Program Coordinator, I oversees the largest specialized program areas in Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Education’s Social Justice Teacher Preparation Program, coordinate multiple program courses, co-advise teacher candidates within and across programs, and, in community with colleagues, facilitate coherent experiences across course and clinical experiences. As a practitioner and researcher, I focus on examining the instructional strategies used to teach preschool through adolescent learners and, specifically, the ways in which they address issues of agency and equity in education.
