Paul Robeson Success Institute

This three day signature experience named after one of Rutgers’ most notable alum, prepares students for the transition to Rutgers University-New Brunswick. The high impact experience targets first-generation, low-income, historically underrepresented students and transfer students.

  • Admit Coming (AC) to Rutgers University–New Brunswick
  • Identify as a first-generation college student– applicant’s residential parent/guardian has not completed a 4-year bachelor’s degree in the U.S. 
  • Low-Income Indicator: Family annual gross income $75,000 or below based on the information reported on the FAFSA
  • Identify as member of a historically underrepresented group in higher education
  • Students who are transferring into Rutgers for the first time


  • Move into your residence hall early
  • Build a community of support with peers
  • Explore the Rutgers campus
  • Network with Senior Faculty and Administrators
  • Participate in Academic and Life Skills workshops

Learning Outcomes

  • Learn strategies to clearly define short-term and long-term academic goals in order to achieve timely degree completion
  • Understand faculty and instructor expectations 
  • Network with administrators, faculty, and current Rutgers students 
  • Identify various on-campus resources to support educational success and timely degree completion
